We limit our class sizes to ensure a more personalised experience leading to a more engaging and enjoyable time. Smaller group sizes also allow more one-on-one time with our instructors to help you get the most out of your class.
Pottery Class Includes:

Up to 2 kilos of clay per person to make your items, use of all tools, underglazes and glazes on the day/s.
- Expert instruction and guidance to help you make pieces you will love.
- Firing of your items (first to bisque then again to midrange for the glaze).
- Take home 2 fired pieces once they have been glaze fired for you.
What will the classes cover?
Introduction to Pottery is a two-part intensive class to learn the basics of pottery. The first class focuses on handbuilding with clay, the second glazing your bisqued piece from the previous class.
Part 1 - Introduction to Clay: A comprehensive class covering the basics of hand building to develop the knowledge and skills to effectively create with clay.
- Origins of clay, how to use, prepare, store and recycle clay.
- Types of different clay and how this can affect your final product.
- Techniques for creating lasting pieces with varied style & effect.
- Safety and studio care for the long term potter or hobbyist.
- Troubleshooting such as crack repair and shrinkage.
Part 2 - Introduction to Glazing: An intensive class learning the essentials for underglazes and clear glazes, application techniques and preparing pieces for the kiln.
- How to use and apply underglazes and clear glazes.
- Techniques for different effects.
- Preparing pieces for safe and successful firing .
Taught by Stephen Roberts who holds more than 30 years experience as a full time potter, production potter and teacher of pottery.
